This calculator is unusual in one way that matters, so it is the first thing said here rather than the last: it records what you type as you type it, before you press anything. This page explains what that means, what is kept, for how long, and how to stop it.

In short. You do not have to give us an email address, and we do not ask for one. Your logo never leaves your browser. We do record the answers you give the calculator, including partial ones, so that we can see where the tool confuses people and fix it. You can refuse that, and the calculator works exactly the same either way.

Who we are

This site is operated by Bond Media, a creative agency with offices in London and Dubai. For the purposes of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, Bond Media is the data controller for the information described on this page.

If you want to ask about anything here, or make a request about your own data, email us and say so plainly. You do not need to use any particular form of words.

What the calculator records

The calculator exists to produce a costed proposal from the answers you give it. To do that it holds those answers in your browser. Separately, and only if you allow it, it sends a copy to us so we can see how the tool is being used.

The answers you give

These are the fields the calculator asks for, and all of them may be recorded:

  • What your business does, in your own words
  • Your current website address
  • A competitor you would like to beat
  • The CRM or marketing platform you use
  • Your industry, the number of pages and services, the immersion level, the features you select, your budget and your currency
  • The total the calculator arrived at, and the timeline it estimated

Most of that is not personal data. Some of it can be: a website address or a competitor’s name can identify a business and, in a small business, a person. That is why this page exists and why the choice below is offered.

Recorded as you type, not when you submit

There is no submit button on the calculator, so there is no moment at which you decide to send us something. Instead, a field is recorded shortly after you stop typing in it. If you type an address and then delete it, we may still hold what you typed. This is deliberate: knowing which questions people abandon is the only way to find out which questions are badly asked.

How you moved through it

We record the sequence of what you did: which step you were on, how long you spent there, when you moved forwards or back, which features you turned on and off, and whether you downloaded the proposal, copied a share link, or opened the booking calendar. Each event carries a timestamp.

Technical and campaign information

  • The page address, and the address of the page that sent you here
  • Campaign tags in the link you arrived on (utm_source and the rest) and advertising click identifiers from Google, Meta, Microsoft and TikTok where present
  • Your device category, screen size, browser language and time zone
  • Your IP address. By default this is stored only as a one-way hash, which lets us count distinct visitors without holding the address itself. The site can also be set to store the full address, or none at all.

What is never recorded

  • Your logo. If you upload one it is read inside your own browser to personalise the preview and the proposal. It is never sent to us. We record only that a logo was supplied.
  • Payment details. The calculator takes no payment and has no payment fields.
  • An email address or a phone number, unless you choose to book a call, which is handled by Calendly and described below.

Your choice, and how to change it

When recording requires your consent, the calculator asks for it before anything is sent, and nothing is sent until you answer. If you decline, the calculator keeps working in full. Nothing is withheld, nothing is degraded, and you will not be asked again on that device unless you clear your browser storage.

You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser, which removes the stored answer and lets the notice appear again.

Cookies and browser storage

This site sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. It uses two small entries in your own browser’s storage, neither of which is readable by any other website:

Name Where Why How long
bmcc-uid Session storage A random identifier that ties the events of one visit together. It is not linked to you and is not reused. Until you close the tab
bmcc-consent Local storage Remembers whether you allowed or refused recording, so you are not asked twice. Until you clear it

If you are signed in to WordPress on this site as an administrator, WordPress sets its own session cookies. That applies to us, not to visitors.

Booking a call

The booking calendar is provided by Calendly and opens in a window over this site. When it loads, Calendly receives your IP address and sets its own cookies, under its own privacy policy and its own cookie notice, which appears inside that window. If you book, the name and email address you give go to Calendly and to us, and are used to arrange and hold the call.

Nothing is sent to Calendly until you open the booking window. Close it without booking and no appointment data is created.

Why we are allowed to do this

Where we ask for your consent, consent is the lawful basis, and you can withdraw it as described above. Where we do not, our lawful basis is legitimate interests: understanding how a tool we built is being used, so that we can improve it and so that we can have a better first conversation with someone who asks us for a call. We have weighed that against the fact that the information is about businesses rather than private lives, that no email address is required, and that the recording can be refused outright.

Who else sees it

We do not sell this data and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. It is handled by Bond Media staff, and by the suppliers who run the systems it sits in:

  • WP Engine, who host this site and therefore store the database it is kept in
  • Calendly, if and only if you open the booking window

We may also disclose information if we are legally required to.

Where it is kept, and for how long

The data is held in this site’s own database rather than in a third-party analytics product. Journeys are deleted automatically after a retention period set in the site’s settings, and the current period is available on request. We delete sooner if you ask.

Your rights

You can ask us to give you a copy of what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict what we do with it, or object to it entirely. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it. These requests are free and we will answer within one month.

One practical note: because recorded journeys are tied to a random per-visit identifier and not to your name, we may need you to tell us roughly when you used the calculator and what you entered, so that we can find the right records. If we cannot identify them we will say so rather than guess.

If you think we have handled your data badly, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this notice

If what the calculator records changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. We do not make changes quietly.
